In 1996 I was contacted by Warren Schmidt, the Guild Master of the North American branch of the International Programmers Guild, based in Mississauga. Since I had extensive experience with PowerPC Engineering training at George Brown College, an organizational track record with two North American conventions of User Group leaders, and being the founder and the president of the Consortium of Canadian User Groups, the IPG Guild Master felt that my contribution as a Director of the newly established IPG Academy would be most beneficial.
According to Mr. Schmidt, IPG was formed in the eighties in Geneva, Switzerland, and was an exclusive club of approximately 3000 highly sought international mainframe programming consultants, conforming to a high standard of the IPG Code of Ethics. In the meantime microcomputers had become mainstream, and World Wide Web, implemented slightly over a year before my involvement, took the world by storm. Professional development and continuous updating of programming skills was of utmost importance for leading edge programmers. My task would be to establish an online training facility for IPG members all over the world.
I found the invitation very intriguing, and after I accepted the challenge, I spent every free minute after hours, on the weekends and a couple of months during the summer to set up the online Academy and launch it. Attached is the summary of my activities as the Director of IPG Academy at the conclusion of my project.
